We are pleased to announce the opening of our Christmas Shop. Year 1 will be shopping for gifts and Christmas decorations, paying for goods and calculating change. There is work to be done in the elves workshop e.g. making paper chains, writing to Santa and making snowflakes.
As part of their Geography lesson 1FB took a walk to the local postbox. The children have been learning about addresses and how the post reaches our houses. Year 1 have all written a postcard that included their address and postcode. Hopefully they will arrive at their destinations soon!
On a bright sunny afternoon Year 1 took a trip to Hacton Park. They had three objectives to cover.
Looking for signs of Autumn;
Road markings and road signs;
Park equipment and how it moves.
The children enjoyed their trip and noticed early signs of Autumn. They took turns on all the park equipment and discussed the materials used to make them. With their group leaders the children chatted about the different road markings and what they were there for. A big thank you to all the parents who came with us, we really appreciate your help. With the trip in mind the children have been writing poems relating to the season and have taken part in painting and leaf collage to name a few.
In Literacy we have been studying different nursery rhymes. We have sequenced them and discussed the history behind them too. Watch Mrs Perry's favourite rhyme: 'I'm a Little Teapot'.
On Friday 2nd October Year 1 went on a bear hunt. Armed with a map of the school the children looked for clues as they went on their quest to find a bear. They trampled through swishy swashy grass, located deep water (at the swimming pool) and found other clues. They heard the roar of a bear in the infant playground and finally arrived in the hall to be met by a circle of bears who shared their fruit and 'Pom Bears' with them.
The children can now mark off 'Going on a Bear Hunt' on their passports.
We take school-home communication very seriously at Hacton Primary. Parents should feel confident that their children are getting the very best education in our friendly, nurturing environment. Children's successes should be celebrated so that they feel proud of their work and motivated to improve. Magical moments happen every day at our school and we hope that this blog helps to capture some of them.
