This week in Year 1, we are learning:

• To subtract;
• To tackle word money problems;

Year 2 Objectives W/C 04/01/16

Literacy
In Year 2 this week, we will be using 'Beware of Boys' to;
to plan our own story using a story mountain;
to write our own story with a clear beginning, middle and end.

Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar
In Year 2 this week, we will be learning; to punctuate speech with inverted commas (speech marks) to spell words ending in -able and -ible.

Mathematics
In Year 2 this week, we will be learning;
to solve multiplication problems using written and pictorial methods (continued from last week);
to use tables and tally charts to collect and answer questions about data.

Year 1 Objectives W/C 22/2/16

Literacy

This week in Year 1, we are learning:

• To write a character description;
• To retell a story using drama;
• To draw a story map.

Mathematics

This week in Year 1, we are learning:

• To recognise half turns and quarter turns;
• To multiply by 2;
• To order months of the year.

Irish Dancing

On the 4th February we had a very special visitor to Hacton Primary School. Ellie O'Sullivan is an Irish Dancer who has been dancing since she was 3 years old. Ellie has been performing a lead role in the Lord of the Dance tour in London and has now joined the American tour. Ellie very kindly gave us a dancing demonstration in soft shoes and heavy shoes; she also showed us her very beautiful competition 'feis' dress and answered questions from the children. The children also had a chance to learn some steps themselves as Ellie gave them a short lesson which was enjoyed by all. This inspired the children to write a newspaper article the next day in class about the whole event.

Literacy

This week in Year 1, we are learning:

• To write a news article;
• To read a poem and perform it;
• To write a poem in the style of Spike Milligan

Mathematics

This week in Year 1, we are learning:

• To problem solve
• To weigh items with scales;
• To measure using a ruler.

Year 1 Design and Technology

As part of our design and technology lessons we have been studying park equipment. We have been looking at the construction and materials used to make swings, slides, see-saws and roundabouts. Here are a few examples of swings using K'nex.
